The Book Fair from “The Travelling Book Company” will be in school from Monday 22nd October 2018. A children’s book leaflet showing a selection of what is on sale is enclosed. This leaflet is for information only. Books can only be bought during Book Fair week. We do not order books but have asked the book company to provide us with plenty of copies of popular items.
Children will have the opportunity to browse on Monday and Tuesday during the school day. They can bring in money from Monday 22nd October to buy books. Children are sent for from class to come and do this.
Thursday 25th October will be the last day for buying books. Cheques should be made payable to
St Kenneth’s Primary School.
It would be very helpful if parents of younger children could put their money into an envelope with a note of what it is they would like to buy.
There will also be an opportunity for parents to come along to the Book Fair on Wednesday 24t October from 3.15pm to 4pm. The Book Fair will take place in the dining hall. Please come through the front entrance and you will be directed from there.
Our school benefits from the fair through commission books for class libraries - so happy spending!!
Many thanks for your support.

Improvement Planning and Parent Discussion Group on Homework: Tuesday 6th November 2018 6pm to 7.15pm
Please note that there will be a parent consultation workshop on Tuesday 6th November at 6pm to 7.15pm on homework. As part of our Improvement Plan we are reviewing our homework policy with a view to ensuring it meets the needs of 21st Century families. More information will follow after the October break but please save this date as we would like to gather the views of as many parents/carers as possible.
Our savings club will re-start on Wednesday 31st October. Further information will be given after the October break including information about how to join the scheme if you are interested in doing so. Well done to our P6 pupils who completed applications and interviews for the posts of cashiers, runners, supervisors and tellers and to our P7 pupils who conducted the interviews. Miss Connolly will be in touch with parents who have said they can help us run this scheme.
Hallowe’en Discos: Wednesday 24th October
The PTA is holding their annual Hallowe’en Discos for the children on Wednesday 24th October ’18. The entry fee is £2 which is paid at the door on the night.
These will take place in our school hall. Entry to the disco is through our dining hall doors and children should come into the playground through the main pupil gate. Staff will be there to help you find the way in!
The discos will take place at the following times. Parents should drop their children off and return at the end of the disco. If your child needs you to stay with them in the disco to settle them then please do so. All children must be collected from this event. Children will not be allowed to walk home. Thank you for your support in this matter.
Please look out for the PTA flyer about the disco in your child’s school bag.
Primary 1 to 3 6.30pm-7.30pm
Primary 4 to 7 8.00pm-9.00pm
Cycling to school
Some of our children cycle to school on a regular basis and it is great to see this. Just to remind pupils that they should not cycle through the yard and that wearing a cycle helmet is strongly recommended.
Road Safety and Eco Group
Over the next few weeks, our Junior Road Safety Officers and members of our Pupil Council will be out and about at drop off and pick up times distributing a leaflet outlining our School Travel Plan. This sets out the ways in which we try to encourage safe routes to school. We will also be distributing these leaflets to our neighbours in Dalmellington Drive to let them see that we try our best to promote considerate parking and park and stride.
Thanks to parents who have said they would help with our Eco Group. Mrs Currie will be in touch soon to start our tidy up for the winter and make plans for our garden and tubs.
There will be new menus distributed after the October break and these will start on Monday 29th October with Week 1.
Just to remind you that the school will close on Friday 12th October 18 for the October break and re-open on Monday 23rd October at the usual times.
I wish the staff and all our families a restful October break.
